b. 1932 in Dumbarton, Scotland, James Douglas was brought up in Edinburgh where he lived, worked and performed for most of his life. An accomplished Musician, Organist, Accompanist and Teacher, Douglas' music has been broadcast worldwide, including: BBC Radio 3, ITV (Heartbeat), BBC TV (Sahara), BBC Radio Scotland and in Ireland.

His website and his music is now represented and maintained by his daughter Katharine.

James died in February 2022, but his music lives on....

A brief Biography

JAMES DOUGLAS: 1932-2022.

Award-winning Composer, Accompanist and Organist (born Dumbarton, Scotland) with an International outlook. Studied: Edinburgh and with Professor Hermann Reutter in Munich and Salzburg. Also, with Professor Henri Lauth of the Paris Conservatoire. These two musicians had a formative effect on his musical development. His music is published by Publisher: Eschenbach Editions with the most popular being: 'Visions of Glory' for SATB and Organ, Piano: words by David Adam /  music: James Douglas.  Also available are several choral, instrumental and organ works. Douglas has written works in all genres published by Eschenbach Editions, as well as over 20 CDs of his music which have been released by Caritas Records. His Catalogue of works include: 15 Symphonies, 36 major Organ works, 31 flute / flute & piano works, 'The Christ Church Sequence' (2001-2006) with 75 Chamber works; described by Musical America as 'History in the making).
